What the defect looks like

Within 7 to 14 days of manufacturing, flexible PVC profiles, cable sheathing, or rexine sheets develop a greasy, sticky oil film on the surface. When wiped with an alcohol swab, the surface appears clean, but the oil layer returns after 48 hours.

Root-cause mechanism

Thermodynamic incompatibility and phase separation. Secondary plasticizers (chlorinated paraffin) do not possess ester functional groups to form dipolar bonds with PVC chlorine atoms. When CPW loading exceeds the compatibility threshold (typically >30% of total plasticizer volume or >35 PHR per 100 PHR resin), the polymer network squeezes out the excess liquid to the exterior surface.

This diagnosis is a technical starting point. Confirm the cause with controlled checks before changing production.
