        # Suspension vs. Paste: Choosing the Right PVC Resin for Your Process

**Topic:** Resins

You're starting a new production line for synthetic leather, but your resin isn't dissolving properly. You might be using the wrong morphology.

---
## Problem

Using suspension resin for a coating process, or paste resin for an extrusion process, will lead to immediate failure. The particle size, porosity, and molecular weight distribution are fundamentally different between the two.

---

---
## Likely cause

This issue often stems from inconsistent compounding temperatures, inferior raw material purity, or unbalanced stabilizer ratios within the formulation matrix.

---

---
## Corrective direction

Suspension resins (NBT SG-5, SG-7) are larger, porous particles designed to absorb plasticizers and be processed via heat and shear (extrusion). Paste resins (NBT TPM-31) are much finer and are designed to form a liquid 'plastisol' when mixed with plasticizers, ideal for dipping, coating, and rotational molding.

          ## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can I mix the two?

Sometimes 'blending resins' (a type of suspension resin) are added to paste resins to reduce cost and adjust viscosity.

### Which one is more expensive?

Paste resins generally command a higher price due to the more complex emulsion polymerization process.
