        # Why Your WPC Board is Collapsing: A Foam Stabilization Guide

**Topic:** Production

You pull the WPC board off the line and it looks perfect - for about five seconds. Then the center sags, the edges curl, and your entire run is scrap.

## Problem

Foam collapse in WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) board manufacturing is a multi-variable problem. It occurs when the gas pressure inside the expanding cells exceeds the melt strength of the PVC matrix. Common triggers include: incorrect blowing agent decomposition timing relative to melt viscosity, insufficient stabilizer loading, excessive moisture in the wood flour, and temperature spikes in the die. Each variable compounds the others, making troubleshooting feel like chasing ghosts.

---
## Likely cause

This issue often stems from inconsistent compounding temperatures, inferior raw material purity, or unbalanced stabilizer ratios within the formulation matrix.

## Corrective direction

NBT recommends a three-pronged approach: **1)** Use NBT ADCL with a zinc-based kicker to precisely control decomposition onset at 195-205°C - matching it to your die temperature profile. **2)** Ensure your CPW (Diamond Grade) loading provides adequate melt lubrication without plasticizing the surface. **3)** Pre-dry your wood flour to below 0.5% moisture using a pre-conditioning silo. Our technical team has helped 15+ WPC manufacturers in North India optimize their lines to achieve consistent 0.55-0.65 g/cc density boards.

          ## Frequently Asked Questions

### What density should I target for WPC boards?

For interior applications (furniture/cabinets), 0.55-0.65 g/cc is standard. Exterior (cladding) should be 0.70-0.80 g/cc for weather resistance.

### Can I use recycled PVC for WPC boards?

Partially, but virgin resin should make up at least 60% of the PVC fraction for reliable melt strength and foam stability.
